As usual, the weekend got away from me and I didn't send out the promised update.  Please see below for an introduction to our season.  Look forward to getting started with the boys tonight and tomorrow at Highlands from 4:30-6.

Northview Little League

Spring 2023

Welcome to our 2023 Little League season!  Looking forward to getting started with this group of young men.  I would like to share some information to get us set up for our time together.

Our goal for this year is to provide a fun, and positive experience for our boys.  I hope to expose them to the game of baseball, but also the ideas of teamwork and supporting one another.  I want to challenge these young men outside of their comfort zone a bit and have them experience a variety of positions.  We will do this while keeping a positive attitude and having fun playing this great game.  Having said that, playing at the Majors level means we will try to balance gaining experience with trying to put our best competitive team on the field.

A little about myself…I am currently a teacher in the Northview system, spending 15 years at the High School, one year teaching Elementary PE at North and West Oakview and spending this year at Highlands.  I also have worked for the past 17 years working with our athletic teams and their medical care as an athletic trainer.  I also have spent time coaching with the Northview Varsity Baseball team for many years.  Also I serve on the Northview Little League Board as treasurer.  I am passionate about all sports and competing, but especially with the game of baseball.

Helping to coach this year will be Joe Borek and Justin Dalziel. I have coached against these guys the past few years and am happy to have the 3 of us working together.  Joe also serves on the NVLL Board as Vice President of Baseball. Justin is an all around great guy and we will benefit from his positive energy.

Regarding the schedule, we are still awaiting completion of the game schedule.  Dates of importance:

  • Majors Baseball has been will take place at DW Richardson Park.  Practices and home games will take place there.  We will practice at Highlands on Monday March 27 and Tuesday March 28 from 4:30-6.  Once we return from break, we will practice on Mondays and Wednesdays from 6:30-8.  Once games start we may have a scattered practice or two but with multiple games/week, the games will take most of our time.
  • Saturday April 15 at 9 AM is field clean up.  One of the things I appreciate about baseball (the kids might not…) and ask of our players is to take ownership of the field conditions.  Cleaning up after ourselves both in the dugout and field. This date is a great place to start in getting our fields ready for the season.  The more hands we can get the lighter the work is.
  • Saturday April 22 is opening day!
  • Friday May 5 is our team picture day.  Pictures will take place at Highlands.

I look forward to the season that we will have and the growth we will get to see out of our ball players.  I will continue to communicate more information as it becomes available.  Please reach out if you have any questions.
